Corona, CA: First West Nile Human Cases Confirmed in County

Three women are recovering from the virus, and are the first confirmed cases in Riverside County since 2009.

Three cases of human West Nile Virus were confirmed today by Riverside County health officials. They are the first laboratory-confirmed cases in the county since 2009.

The first patient is a 44-year-old Corona woman who became ill in early August and was briefly hospitalized. The second is a 63-year-old Norco woman who became ill in mid-August and was hospitalized. The other involves a 36-year-old Beaumont woman became ill last month and is recovering at home.

Owner operator of Lauren Records Aaron Kovacs hasn’t stopping there, though, as he also has an upcoming 7” release from female-fronted fuzz punk and power pop outfit Cheeto Champ, as well as a 14-song cassette version of Japanther’s Beets, Limes and Rice album.

AVT Inc. has partnered with Los-Angeles-based Medicine Dispensing Systems to develop an ATM-style kiosk that provides prescription medicine refills directly to consumers, 24 hours a day, without the need for a pharmacist or store employee.

The system, for which the companies report they have been awarded a U.S. patent, uses biometric fingerprint recognition and a high-definition camera to validate each transaction.

Inland Regional Center (IRC) – an agency that serves people with developmental disabilities in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties – will hold a community meeting to give families and vendors the opportunity to discuss with IRC staff resources and needs for people with developmental disabilities living in and around the City of Corona.

Starting at 6 PM, the famous guitar manufacturer Fender in Corona, CA opened the doors of its brand-new Visitor Center to a small group of media, VIPs and music lovers.

Upon arrival, guests sauntered through its museum-esque collection of fender guitars and basses, signature series guitars, and Buddy Holly-to-Kurt Kobain memorabilia, while filling themselves to the brim with limitless brews and buffet food - ( including sushi, which is essentially the Cristal of Buffet Food, right?). Corona, CA: Duchess reigned in Corona

Janet Gould was called "the Duchess" because of her regal bearing and her many contributions to her city, her state and their history.

Photos show Gould in the attire of a well-dressed woman of the early 19th Century. She wore this costume when she spoke to different organizations, as she often did.

Her black dress was marked by a delicate pattern. She wore the mantilla in her hair that supported a black lace scarf. Her arms carried golden bracelets that jangled when she gestured as often happened during her talks.

Two people were killed and two others were injured after a wrong-way crash on the 60 Freeway in Riverside.

The trouble started shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday when a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to pull over a Jaguar for speeding.

The Jaguar exited the freeway at Main Street, but then got back on going the wrong direction. Seconds later, the Jaguar crashed into a pickup truck.

A high school wrestling coach in Corona is being accused of bullying and harassing a freshman student on his team.

13-year-old Centennial High School freshman Hunter Grijalva says he was humiliated by his coach at a practice on Monday.

Hunter says he had dropped his wrestling shorts on the way to the bus that morning.

Several Homes Evacuated After Officers Bust a Meth Lab - A meth lab was busted on Wednesday in a home off of a quiet cul-de-sac in Corona.

The Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement swarmed 7733 Selby Avenue in Corona on Wednesday and found a meth lab in the house.

Several people were forced to evacuate from their homes while the drug task force cleared the drug infested house.

An Ontario man has pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in connection with his girlfriend's death in 2007 from a drug overdose.

Andrew Girvan, 34, entered the plea Friday in West Valley Superior Court as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors that carries a 6-year prison sentence. Girvan is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 9.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Orange County and the Inland Empire is making the wish of 14 year old Christopher come true. The Corona, Calif., resident enjoys dirt bike riding and hardcore scootering, and wished to go on a shopping spree for gear and accessories to support his hobbies. Baggett was chosen to ride the MX2 class for the United States, Wilson will also ride the MX2 class for Great Britain, and Rattray will lead his team in the MX1 class for South Africa.

Burfict is known as Ray Lewis Jr., a mixture of hard hits and unpredictable behavoir. In his first college game, Burfict drove into an Idaho State quarterback, knocking him about 4 feet in the air and 4 feet back. Later as a freshman, he acted like LaVar Arrington, swan diving the Georgia offensive line on a fourth and short to end a Bulldogs drive.

On a night that was filled with incredibly good week-one matchups, I have to say St. Bonaventure and Corona Centennial put on the most compelling game. By the time week 14 comes around, I expect both schools to be competing for championships and bowl bids.

For St. Bonaventure to drive in from Ventura and come away with a 29-27 road victory over the Huskies was pretty stunning. And the way it happened, with running backs Zach Green and Shaun Wick each rushing for more than 100 yards, made the victory even more startling.

After the long summer break, Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) racing has finally resumed and FAR Husqvarna racers Jason Thomas and Morgan Moss were back in action for round 10 of the 2011 series, which took place at the famous Unadilla Raceway in New Berlin, New York. Thomas had a great day, leading the way for much of the race, but settled for second.Moss and Thomas got the start and led the pack into the woods. At the green flag it was Thomas leading the way. It was a dogfight all day between Thomas and Jordan Ashburn – the two riders were never more than 15 seconds apart for the three-hour duration. At the fuel stop, Thomas was still leading. At the white flag, Thomas was still in control and pushing hard to complete the final eight-mile lap in the lead. On the last hill – no more than 50 feet from the finish – a lapped rider got crossed up and fell into Jason’s line, knocking him to the ground and costing him the win.

UC Riverside certainly is giving its fans some options. The school is having fans vote for their top three out of 13 designs for its new athletics logo.

Tenant expected to open September 15, 2011

The Shops at Dos Lagos announced today that Mama’s Baguette has signed a retail lease at the center and will occupy 939 square feet in suite 104 on Cabot Drive, near T.G.I. Friday’s and Pinkberry. Mama’s Baguette is expected to open the fifteenth of September.

Mama’s Baguette offers healthy, quick and affordable sandwiches, baguettes and beignets. “We not only believe in serving fresh and delicious Banh Mi, but we want to offer a friendly and relaxing environment for our customers,” said Paul Nguyen, owner of Mama’s Baguette. “For us, it is all about spreading as much happiness through great service and great food as possible, all in a timely manner.”

Chris Fillmore headed into New Jersey Motorsports Park over the weekend with a 12 point lead in the AMA XR1200 Championship over Steve Rapp. Fillmore was able to capture his fifth pole of the season and extend his lead to 13 points. A fourth or better in the final on Sunday would be enough for Fillmore to claim the number one plate.

Rather than cautiously cruise home to a championship, Fillmore put his Race Tech suspension to the test as he took off from the pole and never looked back. Fillmore was able to lead the competitive XR1200 field from flag to flag and bring home his fifth win of the season, but most importantly, the AMA XR1200 Championship.

Corona, CA: AVT, Inc. Second Quarter Financials Show Strong Gains

AVT shows a promising future with an increase in revenue expected by the end of the year as a result of the many successful pilot programs that are now moving rapidly into production.

In the report filed with the SEC, revenues climbed from the end of first quarter 2011, to the end of second quarter. Gross profit also showed substantial increases.

The heightened restrictions are because of "dryer fuel conditions, higher temperatures and the likelihood of small fires becoming large fires," Cleveland National Forest Public Affairs Officer Brian Harris said.

Corona, CA: Workshop for new business owners set for Corona

The Inland Empire Women’s Business Center at Cal State San Bernardino will hold a workshop today, Wednesday, Sept. 7, in Corona to help people who are considering launching or already operate their own businesses.

“The ABCs of Starting Your Own Business,” a free workshop, will be from 6-8 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Corona City Hall, 400 S. Vicentia Ave.

D.J. Shoemate expected to be the starting tailback for the UConn football team in Week 1, even after spraining his ankle late in the week. He also expects to start this weekend against Vanderbilt, though that prediction seemingly has a better chance of coming true this time.

"I'm feeling good. I've got the strength back, the mobility back," Shoemate said Tuesday of the right ankle injury that forced him to miss the Huskies' season-opener against Fordham. "I'm a worker. I'm going to do everything I possibly can to get back on the field."

Local musician Chris "Big Papa" Thayer and his band - Big Papa and the TCB - will perform Saturday at the Inland Empire Blues and Roots Festival at the Fender Center for the Performing Arts in Corona.

The band will be joined on stage with other blues acts including Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, Kelly McGuire, the Jumpin' Jack Benny Blues Band and the Cold Comfort Blues Band.

On August 31, 2011, deputies from the Norco Office of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded to the 3000 block of Valley View Ave in the City of Norco regarding a domestic violence incident.

Upon arrival, the victim advised responding deputies that her ex-husband (separated), Jaime Sanchez of Corona, CA, had come to her residence uninvited twice during the evening in an attempt to contact her. The second time Sanchez arrived, he forced his way inside the residence and confronted the victim, as well as her children and a visiting family member, brandishing a knife in his hand. Sanchez demanded the cell phones from both the victim and a young family member so they could not call the police.

Air Filtration Products Manufacturer Inks 2-Year Deal

CLARCOR Air Filtration Products, Inc., manufacturer of HVAC filtration products under the Airguard brand, signed a two-year renewal for 133,252 square feet at 1295 E. Ontario St., and an additional 50,604 square feet in an adjacent building at 2090 California Ave. in Corona, CA.

Built in 1990, the two buildings combine for a total of 183,856 square feet on 8.7 acres located at the northwest corner of California Ave. & E. Ontario Ave.

Dolphins will open the new season at Santiago of Corona.

The 2011 football season for Dana Hills High School kicks off Friday with the Dolphins visiting Santiago of Corona at 7 p.m.

Dana Hills, 4-6 last season, has a new coach, Todd Rusinkovich, and a new look. The Dolphins will go with all-black uniforms and metallic blue helmets this season.

Corona, CA: Weekend Fundraiser Supporting JDRF

This Saturday there will be a HUGE fundraiser from 12 PM - 4 PM in Corona up in Eagle Glen to help support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Corona Fire Department and Corona K-9 Police unit will be there.
