Corona, CA: Riverside Artists Win Top Juried Show Awards

Riverside artists Chick Curtis won the Best of Showand R. Mike Nichols won First Place at the 2012Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Juried Art Show. The 18 show winners were announced at a preview reception last night (May 30)at The Shops at Dos Lagos, located at Temescal Canyon Road between Weirick Road and Cajalco Road in Corona.

The prestigious Juried show, which awarded $5,000 in prizes, drew almost 400 entries from artists in 30 Southern California cities. The public can view the hundreds of Jury selected art at the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Gallery from June 1 – 30.

Southern California artists may submit up to three entries on May 11 or May 12 from 11 am to 4 pm at The Shops at Dos Lagos, located at 2780 Cabot Drive in Corona for the second Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Juried Art Show. Bring entries with completed entry form to the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Gallery, which will be located near Anthropologie and Z Gallerie.

Artists will appreciate the unique entry incentive because each entrant will receive a Dos Lagos gift card valued for the entire paid fee. The artist can spend the gift card for purchases at any store or restaurant at the center. The fee is $20 for the first artwork entry and $15 for each additional entry up to a maximum of three entries per artist.

Juried Show Open to Public Through June 25

Chick Curtis won two awards, including Best of Show, at the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Juried Art Show, which opens to the public today. Curtis and 13 other artists were announced as winners of $5,000 in prizes at a preview reception on Wednesday at The Shops at Dos Lagos, located at Temescal Canyon Road between Weirick Road and Cajalco Road in Corona.

Curtis, who lives in Riverside, received the $1,000 Best of Show Award for his oil painting of his nephew David Curtis, and an Honorable Mention $200 Award for “Mooo-ve Over,” an oil painting he said was inspired “after watching cattle while driving along Route 1 North of Santa Cruz.”

The other top Dos Lagos show winners are:

First Place $800: Steven J. Mueller from Perris for "Bullets" in Photography category

Second Place $600: Scott Krohne from Loma Linda for "Diaglogue" in Sculpture category

Third Place $400: Nathaniel Osollo from Fontana for "Unusual Stencils: Beetle” in Mixed Media category

In addition to Curtis, Lorraine Dawson of Murietta won a $200 Honorable Mention Award for her Acrylic "Late Afternoon.” The other $200 Honorable Mention winners include:

More than 400 pieces of artwork from Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino and Orange County artists were accepted by the Jury for the Corona center’s Summer Arts at Dos Lagos show. The Jury included Martin Betz, Laguna Beach Festival of Arts Exhibits Director; Jane Darin, San Diego Sculptor; Daniel Foster President/Chief Executive Officer, The Community Foundation; and Joanna Mersereau, Riverside artist and author.

The Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Gallery is Open!

Admission is free to the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Juried Art Show Gallery, which is located near New York & Company at The Shops at Dos Lagos. The Gallery is open daily through June 25: Monday –Friday from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.

Most of the original artwork displayed in the beautiful Gallery is available for purchase. Artists will receive 70% of artwork sales, with 15% donated to the Corona Art Association, and 15% to the Riverside Arts Council. The Show also features the Heart Gallery, a special portrait exhibit to raise community awareness about foster care and to help find homes for foster children. Starting on June 18, visitors to the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Juried Art Show can bid on two paintings which Gregory Adamson will create at his performance with The Three of Us Band at the Dos Lagos Amphitheater this Friday, June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to the FREE performance and have the opportunity to win one of the paintings in a random drawing. The other two paintings will be displayed for Silent Auction sale from June 18 – 25 at the Art Show Gallery. The highest painting bidders may purchase the paintings after the Art Show ends on June 25, with all proceeds donated equally between the Corona Art Association and the Riverside Arts Council.

Visitors to the Art Show can register for the chance to win exclusive art prizes including VIP tickets to the Laguna Beach 2011 Pageant of the Masters with a guided backstage tour, and VIP tickets to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Tim Burton Exhibition.

Corona., CA: Jury announced for Corona art show

Four prestigious art experts will jury the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos show.

The Shops at Dos Lagos, located at Temescal Canyon Road between Weirick and Cajalco roads in Corona, will award $5,000 in prizes at the show to benefit the Corona Arts Association and the Riverside Arts Council.

The jury includes: Martin Betz, Laguna Beach Festival of Arts exhibits director; Daniel Foster, The Community Foundation president/chief executive officer and former Riverside Art Museum executive director; Jane Darin, San Diego sculptor; and Joanna Mersereau, Riverside artist and author.

The juried show is open to artists ages 18 and older from Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino and San Diego counties. Artists can submit entries in media including oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, ink, charcoal, pastels, photography and sculpture.

Each artist who submitted entries, up to a maximum of five, at The Shops at Dos Lagos by the June 4 deadline, was expected to receive a Dos Lagos gift card valued for the entry fees.

The Shops at Dos Lagos property manager Giovanna Calambrogio said, "The entry fee is an affordable $20 for the first artwork entry and $10 for each additional entry, up to a maximum of five entries. By giving each artist a Dos Lagos gift card, valid at all our stores and restaurants, we hope to attract many Southern California art entries."

The jury-accepted artwork list will be posted at www.ShopDosLagos.com on June 9. The accepted art will be displayed and offered for sale from June 15-25 at the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Gallery, which will be located at the south end of the center near New York & Co., south of the fountain and roundabout. Artists will receive 70 percent for any artwork sold at the gallery, with 15 percent each donated to the Corona Art Association and the Riverside Arts Council.

"This is the sort of event that helps to highlight and connect both artists and communities," said Patrick Brien, executive director of the Riverside Arts Council. "With Dos Lagos as a stunning backdrop, audiences will be able to truly experience the richness of visual art in this region. We're thrilled to play a role in what is certain to become a landmark annual event."

The Corona Art Association is sponsoring Art at the Heart of Dos Lagos on Friday, September 12th from 6-9PM. Local visual and performing artists will be present. There will be painting and sculpting to live music at the Dos Lagos Ampitheater.

RED-HOT-COOL...Corona Art Association!

The Corona Art Association will host their first
annual THEME show "RED-HOT-COOL".

You may enter June 12th. 1:00-6:30 p.m., three
pictures, fourth pic FREE if member, non-members may
enter three pics. Membership for the year is $24.

We ask that you participate in our theme with at least
ONE picture in either a WARM or COOL palette. We would
be SO pleased if all your pictures followed the theme
but at lest try ONE! The picture should depict you
interpretation of Summer!!

Generally our summer shows are for members only and
are not judged, but we are tying something new. An
unbiased panel of three judges (members) who are
exempt from prizes will judge the show. Prizes will be
donated and "goodies" to win at the reception Sat.
June 21st. 5:30-7:00 p.m. A Special Award will be
presented to the artist whose work best followed the
theme and there will also be a popular vote.

All paintings must be wired properly on back with
screw eyes and wire, no sawtooth hangers. The work
must be dry and if painting on wrap around canvas ALL
sides must be painted. No pictures to exceed 40" wide
by 54" tall. Show ends August 14th.

Dos Lagos showcases art, music

Greg Adamson is a local artist who creates paintings to live music on stage at the Dos Lagos Amphitheater. He will complete the second of two large paintings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Art@the Heart of Dos Lagos, a collaboration of art and live music hosted by the Corona Art Association. Admission is free.

Adamson, a member of the Corona Art Association, sees a close connection between visual art and music.

"I am often drawn to musicians as subjects because I identify with the zone they seem to occupy when performing," he said. "I find myself in that same zone when I'm painting to music."

In addition to Adamson painting with band Derrick Edmondson, several art association members will be displaying and creating art on the Plaza near the Dos Lagos Amphitheater.

Momotree coming to V.G.

Newly founded retailer Momotree will soon be joining the merchant lineup at Victoria Gardens.

The store, which will sell trendy apparel, accessories and collectibles and carry fashion lines such as Tokidoki, Harajuku Lovers, Tarina Tarantino and much more anime-based merchandise, is set to open in May.

G&E sees strong office growth

Grubb & Ellis Co. says the 2008 commercial real estate outlook is good for the Inland Empire.

The industrial market is expected to further solidify its position as Southern California's leading distribution hub. The office market will see an increase in vacancy as supply outpaces demand and white-collar job growth slows with the slowing economy.

In the retail market, the weak housing market may bruise consumer confidence, but the Inland Empire seems somewhat immune as much of the area's local population is underserved by retailers in all categories.

The office development boom, which began in 2005, will slow in 2008 as developers become more cautious. Fallout in the local housing market coupled with the shaky mortgage industry will affect tenants, some of which will downsize their operations and sublet space.

The Inland Empire will continue to be an industrial powerhouse in 2008, benefiting from its proximity to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, competitive rents, Los Angeles' under 2 percent vacancy rate, and available space to accommodate large warehouse users.

The Inland Empire has not been immune to fallout from the subprime lending crisis and its impact on consumer confidence. Nonetheless, the retail market has continued to exhibit strength.
