Corona, CA: Christmas at Dos Lagos (Swedish Mom in California, a Blogger's perspective)

Today I took the kids to Dos Lagos shopping place.

It’s a playground there and some shops, a prefect place for a mom. ;) The Christmas decoration was on place and a bunch of moms were working out with their kids in strollers. It looked like a good idea now when the holidays are coming up. Maybe it’s time to get back to the gym. It was a while and too many treats ago. :S

Corona, CA: Dos Lagos Losing More Retailers?

Editors Note: The following is based on a rumor; it is unsubstantiated and should only be read as speculative innuendo.

Is Dos Lagos Losing More Retailers?

Rumors are that up to (8) retailers will be fleeing the center shortly after Christmas...while this claim is unsubstantiated, it would follow a myriad of retailers including such retailers as Banana Republic, Coach, Eddie Bauer, Kay Jewelers, Coldwater Creek, Guess, and more that have left the center since it’s inception.

Corona, CA: Tripping on Steampunk in the IE

Corona’s first gastropub goes sci-fi in imaginative ways

Gastropubs may be few and far here in the Empire, and Steam Haus Gastropub hopes to change that landscape. Located in the Dos Lagos Shopping Center (bravely across the driveway from the stiff competition in Taps), the restaurant masterfully replicates that whole steampunk vibe, from clockwork sculptures that decorate the walls and period set-pieces that double as candleholders and centerpieces on tables, to the waitresses and bartenders outfitted in period garb (black and white-striped Victoria corsets, military-inspired garb with vests and coats). It’s like stepping into that magical world of Phillip Pullman or to The City of Lost Children.

Corona, CA: Seven Oaks 2001 (Great Picture)

This pic is from the annual 4th of July sale at 7 Oaks Nursery in 2001. That is 7 Oaks General Store and Deli in the background, at the corner of Weirick/Dos Lagos and Temescal Canyon Rd. Love the line of people waiting for it to open.

Corona, CA: October 1st is International Sake Day (with $1 Hot Sake)

On October 1, 2012, RA Sushi Bar Restaurant is recognizing “Nihonshu no Hi” or International “Sake Day”, an informal holiday created to celebrate the popular Japanese spirit. Nothing pairs better with sushi then sake, and in honor of this special day RA is encouraging guests to explore this lesser known spirit! Enjoy hot sake for $1 all day at any one of the Southern California RA Sushi locations.

International Sake Day’s origins are centered around ancient symbols and sake’s brewing season. October is represented in the ancient Chinese zodiac system, also embraced in Japan, by the old character for sake. Conveniently, the same month also represents a beginning in the sake world: the start of a new brewing season, making October 1 the perfect time to celebrate all things sake!

Corona, CA: Dos Lagos theater to screen ‘Dracula,’ ‘Frankenstein’

Talk about wide spectrum of spooky films.

The Dos Lagos Stadium 15 theater in Corona has released its list of special film screenings for the month of October. And it spans from black and white classics to modern animated hits.

And it looks like they are starting with one of the scariest films ever made: “The Exorcist.”

The film screens Friday-Sunday, Oct. 5-7. It will be followed by “The Shining” Oct. 12-14, a double feature of “The Mummy” and “The Wolfman” Oct. 19-21 and finally another double feature with “Frankenstein” and “Dracula” Oct. 26-28.

Corona, CA: Steam Haus Gastropub

I’ve been wanting to have my first Gastropub experience since I passed the Haven Gastropub in Pasadena while walking in downtown. Between work, “training” for my 5k and not having too much “refuel time” the last couple months–it was left uncrossed on my to do list. Until last night.

Earlier this month, a Gastropub twenty miles from my work opened. With a Charlie Chaplin movie playing on the wall to the steampunk inspired art on the walls, the first thing you notice when walking into the Steam Haus Gastropub is the cool decor. The servers were dressed in standard steampunk attire and they even raised the glass, garage walls when it got a bit cooler outside. They definitely get extra points on creating an amazing atmosphere.

Steam Haus Gatropub won’t leave you disappointed if your taste buds are looking for a unique experience. Duck Fat Fries, Popcorn (cooked in bacon & rosemary) and the A.M. Burger (8 ounces of Pat LaFrieda Beef, bacon, onion jam & fried egg served between two gourmet waffles) are just some of the menu options they have to offer. Steam Haus also caters to your four-legged friend. Their dog menu includes grilled sirloin steak, oven roasted chicken breast and dog gravy.
