10th Annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner - Everyone is Invited!!

For the 10 th year, there will be a Free Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner at Silverado Burgers & Mexican Food 1091 6th Street Norco, Ca 92860 from 11 am - 3 pm on Thanksgiving Day November 22, 2012. Everyone is invited. Country Band - Hillbilly Reign will be performing. This dinner since its start 10 years ago - has served thousands of folks. It has served folks from all over the region, some driving over 40 miles to come have a nice meal. We have served folks who do not have the ability to have a nice meal, some who do not have anyone to spend the holiday with, and many working during the holiday such as Law Enforcement, Fire, E.M.S. Crews, and many more working the holiday. Last years attendance was 724 folks and it grows annually, especially this year with current difficult economic times and unemployment rates. What makes this dinner unique is it is not run by any organization.

Corona’s first gastropub goes sci-fi in imaginative ways

Gastropubs may be few and far here in the Empire, and Steam Haus Gastropub hopes to change that landscape. Located in the Dos Lagos Shopping Center (bravely across the driveway from the stiff competition in Taps), the restaurant masterfully replicates that whole steampunk vibe, from clockwork sculptures that decorate the walls and period set-pieces that double as candleholders and centerpieces on tables, to the waitresses and bartenders outfitted in period garb (black and white-striped Victoria corsets, military-inspired garb with vests and coats). It’s like stepping into that magical world of Phillip Pullman or to The City of Lost Children.

This week was a challenge. I struck out three times before I found a good spot for this week's lunch review. The fourth try turned out to be a great place - Miguel's Jr., located in the Heritage Crossings shopping center near Roanoake Road in Fontana. I spotted it while driving by on Cherry Avenue, and decided I would give it a try.

The original Miguel's restaurant opened in 1973 in Corona and in 1975 the first Miguel's Jr. fast-food restaurant opened.

The family-owned chain now includes three Miguel's restaurants and 10 Miguel's Jr. fast-food locations in the Inland Empire and Orange County.

The dining area is nice, with a colorful decor and ample seating (indoor only) with both booths and tables. Food orders are Hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday placed at the counter and food is brought to the guests. Drinks are self-serve, with unlimited refills.

I’ve been wanting to have my first Gastropub experience since I passed the Haven Gastropub in Pasadena while walking in downtown. Between work, “training” for my 5k and not having too much “refuel time” the last couple months–it was left uncrossed on my to do list. Until last night.

Earlier this month, a Gastropub twenty miles from my work opened. With a Charlie Chaplin movie playing on the wall to the steampunk inspired art on the walls, the first thing you notice when walking into the Steam Haus Gastropub is the cool decor. The servers were dressed in standard steampunk attire and they even raised the glass, garage walls when it got a bit cooler outside. They definitely get extra points on creating an amazing atmosphere.

Steam Haus Gatropub won’t leave you disappointed if your taste buds are looking for a unique experience. Duck Fat Fries, Popcorn (cooked in bacon & rosemary) and the A.M. Burger (8 ounces of Pat LaFrieda Beef, bacon, onion jam & fried egg served between two gourmet waffles) are just some of the menu options they have to offer. Steam Haus also caters to your four-legged friend. Their dog menu includes grilled sirloin steak, oven roasted chicken breast and dog gravy.

“I have eaten at a lot of Indian Restaurants and most of them are usually outdated in decor, slightly unclean, and sometime a little too much grease in the cooking. Regardless we are big fans of Indian Food and stumbled across Spice Route for the lunch buffet. This is very authentic Indian food. The decor was beautiful, elegant, and very clean. They had nice linen table cloths, crystal ware, and he buffet was filled with a great selection of classic cuisine. The staff was very kind, attentive, and pleasant. I like that the waitress asked us if we would like lemon on the side with our water. We accepted & she brought it on the side freshly sliced on a small plate. I tried a little bit of everything on the buffet and there was not one item I did not enjoy. This is the BEST INDIAN and PAKISTANI cuisine I have ever tried. It was not too greasy. The goat curry had no bit of gaminess (which goat can be a challenge to prepare). The garlic naan was perfect. The food was perfectly seasoned with wonderful combination of spices. The ambiance was very relaxed and comfortable. My favorite was the Keema Samosa and naan bread.

At the end of the meal, the owner , Tariq (sp?) came out and introduced himself and asked how our meal went. He was very kind and interested in our opinion. This left a very good impression on us.

While the IE has scads of taco stands and fast food places where one can find tasty and interesting Mexican cooking, there’s a glaring lack of a creative and modern Mexican restaurant doing great things with the cuisine in a hip and fun setting . . . until now, that is. Luna Modern Mexican Kitchen in Corona is that Mexican restaurant we IE denizens have been looking for but it’s even more. Luna is one of the 10 best restaurants in the Inland Empire itself.

Opened by owner Francisco Perez 14 months ago, Luna was a revelation when I walked in. And an embarrassment. Why had it taken me so long to get here? The space is intimate without feeling small; there’s a glass tower filled with boutique tequilas—it’s groovy though, not clichéd. Service is attentive, thoughtful, and genuine, although servers do tend to hover near your plates towards the end of the meal—but no huge deal. A diner at Luna feels special and cared for.

Beverage giant denies rumored plans to purchase energy drink maker

The Coca-Cola Co. is denying media reports claiming that it is considering buying energy drink maker Monster Beverage Corp. In a statement, it said, "Coca-Cola has a distribution relationship with Monster in many markets, including the United States; therefore, we are always in contact with Monster to maximize the value of our commercial arrangements. At this time, we are not in discussions to acquire the Monster Beverage Corp. We continue to review the best ways to maximize the value of our relationship."

Monster Beverage shares soared on Monday following the reports of a possible acquisition, said the Associated Press. The Wall Street Journal cited unnamed sources in reporting that Coca-Cola was in talks to buy Monster. If a deal transpired, Monster--with a market capitalization of more than $11 billion--would be Coca-Cola's largest brand acquisition ever.

Corona, CA: Deputy Accused in Bar Killing Makes Court Appearance

A Riverside County Sheriff' Deputy who was off-duty when he allegedly shot and killed a man Dec. 21 in Spelly's Pub & Grille in Murrieta appeared in court Friday with an injured hand.

With a hand injury suffered in jail, accused killer and former Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Dayle Long appeared in court today.

The court appearance was to set a date for a preliminary hearing for Long, who pleaded not guilty in the Dec. 21 shooting death of Sam Vanettes at Spelly's Pub & Grille in Murrieta.

The hearing was set for March 5 and is expected to take four hours.

Long's deputy public defender, Jeff Zimel, asked that an MRI be ordered for Long's hand.

Miguel’s Jr., a popular Mexican restaurant with locations across the Inland Empire and Orange County, has opened a new restaurant in Menifee, Calif.

Miguel’s Jr., a popular Mexican restaurant with locations across the Inland Empire and Orange County, has opened a new restaurant in Menifee, Calif. The new Miguel’s Jr. at 30362 Haun Road in Menifee opened on November 15, 2011, and the official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on November 17, 2011, at 10:30 a.m.

The company will celebrate the latest opening by partnering with the Menifee Valley Community Cupboard, a non-profit organization based in Menifee, Calif., that aims to alleviate hunger and malnutrition by providing emergency food at no cost to the homeless, seniors and families who are experiencing hard times. Miguel’s Jr. will donate a percentage of sales from November 17th to the Community Cupboard. “My parents, the Founders of Miguel’s, recognize the importance of being part to the fabric of communities where we are located.
