Husqvarna’s TE dual-sports took center stage as the 2012 AMA/Husqvarna National Dual-Sport Series presented by FMF kicked off. Nearly 300 riders took part in the opening event of the series (more than double the 2011 turnout), which also included a Husqvarna RiDE MORE demo ride.

“I couldn’t believe how well this event was run,” Husqvarna’s Fred Hoess commented. “It was more like an enduro than a dual-sport ride! The Buckeye Dual Sporters did a great job, and the whole atmosphere was so welcoming. We had nearly 100 riders participate in the RiDE MORE demo event on our new 2012 lineup of Huskys. Overall I would say this weekend was a huge success for the Hanging Rock 200, the AMA, and for Husqvarna!”

The Newbury College softball program looks to climb the ranks of the New England College Conference (NECC) with the release of seven new student-athletes who have committed to Newbury for the 2012-2013 academic year. Head Coach Brook Capello notes that these players are not only talented, but they also have the experience and character needed to help build the Nighthawks into contenders for a NECC title in 2013.

Corona, CA: Dick Beam Death: Former USC Assistant and Buccaneers Exec Loses Battle with Cancer at 75

Former University of Southern California football assistant coach Dick Beam lost his fight against cancer Thursday as he died in Corona, Ca. He was 75.

Beam, a standout 3-sport athlete in high school who went on to play football at Whittier College, spent four seasons under head coach John McKay at USC and helped lead the Trojans to the national championship in 1972 and 1974.

Following his college coaching stint at the University of Southern California, Beam coached in the NFL – again serving under McKay for five years (1976-1980) as an assistant and the director of administration for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Country music star Craig Morgan enjoys a day in the mud with FAR Husqvarna

Fred Andrews Racing (FAR) Husqvarna team had a good showing at the Cherokee National Enduro with Jason Thomas landing another top-ten finish. Though Thomas' teammate Andrew Delong was sidelined with an injury, he still showed his support by cheering on fellow Husqvarna riders, which included his younger brother, Craig Delong, and country music star Craig Morgan.

Rain throughout Saturday night made for muddy conditions at the Cherokee National Enduro in Greensboro, Georgia. Thomas started out the day with a 14th place finish on the first test after crashing and getting stuck under his bike. He made improvements from there and scored well in the subsequent special tests to end the day in eighth place.

San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium played host to the sixth round of Monster Energy Supercross this past Saturday, in what was probably the most unforgettable night of the series we have seen so far.

Up until Saturday night, the 2012 season for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson had been frustrating. He arrived in San Diego with a sizeable 22-point deficit to Eli Tomac, the Supercross Lites West Region Championship points leader at the time. Wilson’s goal was to finish on the podium, make up as many points as possible on Tomac, and leave healthy as the West Region prepared to go on its annual midseason break. In San Diego, however, Deano’s luck turned around and he ended up having one of the most memorable nights of his career.

Corona, CA: Remembering Mike Darr – 10 years later

On the first day of spring training, every year, Padres players and coaches check into the Peoria Sports Complex and usually greet each other happily with handshakes, high fives and even a few hugs. But the meet-and-greet in spring training 2002 was somber as players, coaches and other members of the organization comforted each other through sobbing eyes and heavy hearts, having just learned of the death of one of their own—outfielder Mike Darr.

Darr, 25, from Corona, CA, was killed exactly 10 years ago, when he lost control of his GMC Yukon in a single-car accident on Highway 101 at 2 a.m. Feb. 15, 2002. It was reported in Sports Illustrated that the Yukon swerved into a dirt median, then quickly darted right, sending the SUV into a roll. It tumbled across the traffic lanes, plowed through a chain-link fence and came to rest upside down on a service road. Darr and passenger Duane Johnson were not wearing seat belts and both died instantly. Minor league pitcher Ben Howard, who was sitting in the back seat, wore his seat belt, and survived suffering minor injuries.

Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football David Shaw announced today that 22 high school seniors have signed official national letters of intent to play football at Stanford University next fall.

The 22 student-athletes attend high school in 14 states--California (3), Texas (3), Arizona (3), Florida (2) and Washington (2), along with one player each from the states of Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia and Utah.

By position, the Cardinal added seven offensive linemen, five defensive linemen, four wide receivers, three defensive backs, two linebackers and one running back to its roster. One player is also listed as a tight end, as well as a defensive end.

After three seasons with the Minnesota Junior Hockey League's Ice Hawks, Forward Morgan Sanchez continues his playing career with Concordia University's Falcons. This season as a freshman Exercise Science major, Morgan has played 16 games with 6 goals and 4 assists. Originally from Corona, CA, Morgan started with roller hockey as a kid after being influenced by a professional roller hockey player who was housed by his parents. After playing 12 years of roller hockey, he switched to ice hockey. This season will be his 6th year on the ice.

After graduating high school in Morgan continued his career with the Ice Hawks, accumulating 116 games with 39 goals, 47 assists, and 3 National Championships from 2008 to 2011. His most memorable highlight is taking 3rd place at the National Tournament in Boston, MA his 2009-10 season.

Corona, CA: Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Stays Strong at Dodger Stadium

Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium played host to the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship for the second time. Despite an ominous weather report, fans made their way to the stadium to catch round four of the series, in what proved to be an exciting and intense night of racing.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Dean Wilson kept his podium momentum going and finished with a solid second in the Supercross Lites West Main. Wilson quickly got serious after an average start, and made multiple passes in the first lap. He held strong for the remainder of the race and finished in the runner-up spot. Wilson leaves Los Angeles one point behind the current points leader in the class, and wants everyone to know he’s taking the championship seriously.

We made it down to the Husqvarna headquarters in Corona, CA yesterday for a lunch date with some big wigs from the Italian based company.

We broke the language barrier over some sandwiches and then made way back to the HQ for a solid interview with the man who signs off on all Research & Development. Basically, this guy knows everything about every Husqvarna and he also knows what will be coming in the near and more distant future. Plans weren't revealed for the future, but some insight on new ideas and changes we may see show up in the Husky off-road line were thrown around.

The Kamloops Blazers don’t have to concern themselves with trying to shut down Kevin Sundher anymore.

The Victoria Royals dealt Sundher, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Monday evening, less than 24 hours before the WHL’s trade deadline arrives.

In exchange for Sundher, 19, the Royals got defenceman Jason Fransoo, 18, forward Dakota Conroy, 16, and Brandon’s first-round pick in the 2012 bantam draft. The Wheat Kings still own the Saskatoon Blades’ 2012 first-round selection, which Brandon received last January as part of a blockbuster deal in which forward Brayden Schenn went to Saskatoon.
