Corona, CA: Author & Activist Monica Holloway Appears at Corona Public Library

Author Monica Holloway speaks and signs at the Corona Public Library June 9, Saturday, 2-3.30pm.

Holloway is the best-selling and critically acclaimed author of Cowboy & Wills and Driving with Dead People. She is also active in raising awareness on autism and literacy, and serves on the advisory boards of Special Needs Network and National Center for Family Literacy.

 

Young Sisters Win Poetry Contest in Corona, CA

CORONA, CA - Sisters, Malika Kaur and Noor Kaur Nindra have won prizes in the recent Regional Poetry Contest conducted by the Corona Public Library. The contest was titled “LOVE YOUR LIBRARY.”

Five year old Malika won the second prize, and eight year old Noor won the fourth prize in the competition. The library made posters with their poems and they were displayed in the children section.

Their poems were also featured in their school.

Corona (CA) "Stones, Bones and Ancient Tomes" Event on 25 October

"The Corona Genealogical Society (CGS) is proud to announce their "2nd Annual Stones, Bones, and Ancient Tomes" Genealogy Event. This event is FREE and open to the public. A combination of presentations and displays, it will be held at the Corona Public Library, 650 S. Main St., Corona, California, on Saturday October 25, 2008.

"From 10 am until 4 pm, our knowledgeable members will have display booths to assist anyone with beginning genealogy, organizing materials, related software, writing family history, restoring/preserving documents and photos, one-on-one help with Internet Searches, Family Tree Maker, Hispanic Genealogical Research, DNA, DAR and much, much more!

"Members of CGS and invited guest speakers will conduct jam-packed mini seminars on various subjects including "Why to do Family History," "Writing Your Life Story," "How-To use Family Tree Maker software," "Beginning Family History," "Cemetery Walks," "The Corona Family History Center," "Using available Corona Public Library Resources," and more.

Corona Public Library Drawing & Painting Exhibit- July 19th, 2008

Reema Zoumut Artist & Art Instructor will be having a SOLO ART SHOW on July 19th, 2008 at the Corona Public Library, 650 S. Main St. Corona, CA 92882 (2nd floor) - 30 to 35 pieces.

Reema Zoumut is an enthusiastic artist and instructor … who is passionate about all the media in art and working with young people. Reema has illustrated books, photographs, CG, paints and draws.

Her latest series of artworks are based from the Animation cel, shadow boxes, watercolor and color line to the Floating Image - a shadow line trapped between two different surfaces.

Inspired by her children and students’ art work, Reema saw the potential to capture a moment in time. Cherishing her child’s work, while remembering what they look like at that moment.

A line image is drawn on glass by Reema, while using the young artist’s work as a background. Then, in the right lighting conditions, the line image creates the shadow, a “Floating Image”. The moment is captured... Caught in the Act.

The Star Wars event will be at the Corona Public Library on June 1st, from 12pm to 4 pm. All of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life event June 14th & 15th at Santiago High School.

Pets on Parade tomorrow in Corona, CA

The Corona Public Library is holding its Second Annual Pets on Parade event this Saturday, May 10th from 10 to Noon. ALL pets are welcome. Competition categories include: Best Talker, Best Trick, Best Dressed, Cutest Pet, and Ugliest Pet.

Community Read: Unbowed

Mira Loma’s Community Read for this year is Unbowed, the autobiography of Wangari Maathai. Political intrigue, social concern, and ecological miracles–you’ll find them all in this story of the founder of the Green Belt Movement. The first meeting is Tuesday, December 18th, at 12:15 in the Mira Loma library.This novel is also perfect for students in my classes looking for a book to read and complete a review for extra credit. Books are available for checking out in the library.
