Corona, CA: Corona Plane Crash Sparks Fire

A plane crash Saturday morning caused a 1-acre fire in the Cleveland National Forest.

Corona Fire Department dispatchers received a report of the crash about 10:25 a.m. The crash sparked a fire that is now contained.

Authorities do not yet know the type of aircraft or how many victims were on board when it crashed. Corona Deputy Fire Chief John Medina said he does not expect that anyone survived the crash.

Residents living near where the plane crashed said they heard the plane have engine trouble. They also said they heard the plane explode after it crashed.

"The plane looked like an ultralight -- pretty much leveled," said Russ Hoch, 52, who ran up to the crash after seeing the smoke. "The dashboard and two wings, no fuselage, perse. the tail and wings were separated from the rest of it.

Hoch said he thought the aircraft was only built for one passenger, but he could not see that passenger near the wreckage.

"I could even see a body or anything like that," he said.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash. FAA spokesman Ian Gregor has not yet responded to an email seeking comment.

BREAKING NEWS: FIRE IN CORONA!

Firefighters have contained a five-acre brush fire near Corona today.

The blaze was burning on a ridge behind a gated community near the Eagle Glen Golf Course.

Airplanes and helicopters attacked the fire from above, putting out most of the flames within an hour.
A large plume of smoke could be seen for miles.

Corona-Irvine Tunnel Project: Large Portion of Eagle Glen to be Demolished!

In a 5-0 vote last night, the Corona City Council decided to support a recommended measure that would make way for the planned Corona-Irvine tunnel; in the process demolishing 156 Eagle Glen Homes, including a portion of the Eagle Glen Golf Course.

In addition to the planned demolition, the Corona City Council has mandated that 8.15 acres of orange groves be replanted adjacent to the entry of the tunnel project.

“I am both stunned and delighted by the news” exclaimed Eagle Glen Corona Rob Tanner. “I am not happy that the Council voted to demolish my home, but I am happy they were thoughtful enough to replant the Orange Groves.” “Orange Groves are the bedrock of this community. If I have to sacrifice my home for the good of Inland Empire commuters driving through enjoying these orange trees than I guess I have done the right thing.”

ULI will look at trends

The Urban Land Institute's Emerging Trends in Real Estate conference will present a forecast of the Inland Empire Real Estate market in 2008.

The event, which will be held today at Eagle Glen Country Club, will feature the presentation of a national real estate trends report by ULI and PricewaterhouseCoopers, which draws on the views of 600 real estate industry leaders, experts and executives from around the country. This will be followed by a panel of local experts who will address how these trends will impact the Inland Empire.

Rick Kalvoda, director of real estate valuation and analysis for Real Estate Advisory Services Group PriceWaterhouseCoopers, is the featured speaker who will present the national report.

Michael Morris, vice-president of the Inland Empire for LNR Property Corporation, will discuss office development; Michael Faelin, director of retail properties for The Garrett Group, will discuss retail development; Leonard R. Santoro, senior vice-president of industrial properties at CB Richard Ellis, will discuss industrial real estate; John Young, president of Young Homes, will discuss residential real estate; and John Burns, president of John Burns Real Estate Consulting, will serve as moderator.

The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the cost for ULI members is $55, for non-members $75.
