After years of trying to find funding, Corona is hosting a groundbreaking for a memorial honoring local veterans.
The event will feature the start of construction of the Veterans Memorial Project. It is scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the south courtyard of Corona City Hall, 400 S. Vicentia Ave., Corona.
The memorial costs $725,000 and is being paid for by the city and a private developer. It will include benches, a plaque representing each branch of the military, a kiosk with a database of local veterans and a water feature, stairs, flags and trees.
The project was introduced in 2005.
