New Day Dawns from Murrieta

“Live at The Merc”, which debuted a rock show series to run in conjunction with its Thursday series that features Jazz with Sherry Williams, reopened this valley to introducing excellent undiscovered talent with the set of one Skyler Day. Filling the room with her voice and handcrafted homespun songs about her mere 17 years on the planet. With her proud father looking on (“She sings around the house 24/7”), and an electric bass player plus an acoustic guitar player for accompanists, Skyler wove her way through her country songs, three of which are found on her pink self-titled demo CD. “5 years ago we moved out here from (Augusta, GA) to further her singing career and be close to LA.,” a sentiment echoed in the song about leaving ‘friends and family’ and the same old thing of ‘east coast comfort’ to follow ‘West Coast Dreams’. The one thing that stands out besides the original country songs and the innocent resonance of raw talent polished by home training is the artful arrangements found on the CD. The third song penned by Skyler titled, ‘Cheer Up The Moon’, is hit material in a very radio-friendly way. Skyler will be appearing next at the May 16th grand opening of Aromas, the latest music & coffeehouse to open in French Valley; and at the Wednesday (May 21st) fundraiser for the Mexican Mission Youth Group Trip presented at ‘The Merc’ in Old Town Temecula. This is a talent not to be missed.
