Promenade Center Expands by 126,000 SF

Forest City Enterprises plans to expand its one-million-sf Promenade regional mall by 126,000 sf with an open-air addition that will include Williams-Sonoma, Coldwater Creek, the Pottery Barn, White HouseBlack Market, Chico's women's clothing, the Walking Co. and the Yard House restaurant. The new space will be built between Macy's and Edwards Cinemas in a main street setting designed to add upscale retailers and restaurants to the shopping center.

The new tenants have signed on because "They know that the community is more than ready for their offerings," according to Kenneth Lee, vice president of development for the West Coast Commercial division of Forest City Enterprises. The expansion will also include the construction of two new parking structures that will serve customers visiting both the existing mall and the new lifestyle center.

The new retailers will provide "shopping opportunities previously unknown to this part of the Inland Empire," notes Lee. Forest City expects to sign numerous other retailers and restaurants over the course of the construction, which is expected to be completed in time for an opening in the spring of 2009. The expansion is being designed by F&A Architects, with Whiting-Turner as the general contractor.

The Promenade, located off the intersection of Interstate 15 and Winchester Road,is anchored by Macy's, JC Penney, Sears, and Edwards Cinemas. It features more than 140 shops and restaurants occupying a two-level mall and outdoor entertainment area on a 75-acre site that opened in 1999 and was renovated in 2002.
