Corona, CA: Blaze burns 10 acres south of Corona

A brush fire that broke out Monday south of Corona scorched 10 acres and prompted authorities to close a roadway before it was fully contained.

The “Interstate” fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. near Temescal Canyon and Lawson roads, just off southbound Interstate 15, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Twenty-two engine crews and two inmate hand crews — numbering around 100 personnel — with the support of Corona and U.S. Forest Service fire units completely encircled the brusher by 2:30 p.m.

Sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers shut down Temescal Canyon between Lawson and the freeway as a safety precaution.

No homes or other structures were damaged. Crews were expected to remain at the location, watching for possible flareups, until Monday evening.
