In the previous post we took Minor League Baseball to task for letting hockey beat it to the first Charlie Sheen-based game promotion. The Bakersfield Condors, an ECHL team, is holding Charlie Sheen Night on Saturday, March 12. But now a reader informs us of a promotion that may have been planned prior to Bakersfield’s, as the Lake Elsinore Storm (Class A California League affiliate of the Padres) announces its glorious, festive Charlie Sheen-co De Mayo celebration on May 5. Highlight? Hard to pick between the limited edition Charlie Sheen bobblehead and a “Wild Thing” glasses giveaway.
The team is inviting Sheen to the game as a “rehab assignment.”
The Storm will also retire jersey No. 99 (from Sheen’s role as closer Ricky Vaughn in Major League), have an in-game taco eating contest, and a rehab-style party on the exclusive Tiki Terrace featuring “#tigerblood cocktails” and a “two-for-one Ho Hos” special.
“As with any rehab assignment, we’re here to help Charlie embrace that ‘#winning’ feeling,” said Chris Jones, Vice President/General Manager of the Storm. “Also, as a show of support, we welcome all current cast and crew members to the ballpark that night for only two and a half cents.”
Note to all pro sports teams: You’re going to have to up the ante significantly for us to report on any subsequent Charlie Sheen-related promotions. Unless you plan on shooting Jon Cryer from a cannon onto a giant bed filled with lingerie models, the novelty has worn off.
