A man and a woman from the Inland Empire were arrested Wednesday night after leading police on a high-speed pursuit stretching from El Monte to Corona, authorities say.
El Monte police Lt. Ken Alva said officers spotted a car driving with no headlights about 11 p.m. near Central Avenue and Bodger Street and pulled it over. The driver stopped briefly before fleeing.
“The officers walked up and (the vehicle) drove away at a high rate of speed,” Alva said.
The officers followed the car, but backed off once it got onto the freeway heading east. Alva said a helicopter continued to follow the car and California Highway Patrol officers took over the chase near the 71 and 91 freeways.
The driver eventually stopped in the 800 block of Kress Court in Corona and fled into her home.
At the home, officers arrested Nancy Perez, 31, of Corona and Ray Tijerina, 39, of Beaumont. Alva said Perez is being held on suspicion of felony evasion of a police officer and resisting arrest. Tijerina is being held on a parole violation.
