Norco, CA: Flood at Norco stable leaves horse missing

NORCO, CA: When severe flooding trapped dozens of horses at the River Trails Riding Stables in Norco last month, it appeared they were lucky.

The thought was that all 37 horses had been rescued. But when the dust settled, people discovered that wasn't the case at all.

Two weeks later, one horse is still missing, a 6-year-old roan Appaloosa named Spud.

"Anybody who's been around me knows my horses are my kids, and this horse, I love him with all my heart," said Spud's owner, Clayton Price. "He's a great little horse and I just want to find him."

Price continues the search for spud as workers at the stables try to clean up the mess.

"I got in the plane and went up and down the river to take photos," he said. "I've been in a boat in the river, I've been on foot. There's only a handful of us down there and the area is so vast."

Price has searched as far west as the Prado Dam near Corona. In fact, things have gotten so desperate, he has even enlisted the help of an animal psychic.

"They told us that he had a hurt leg, that his neck was hurt, but he was pretty content," Price said. "We're still very hopeful."

One possibility is that someone has found the horse and is holding onto him.

Anyone with information on Spud's whereabouts is asked to call (951) 532-4556.
