The Inland Empire is considering laws to ban registered sex offenders from driving ice cream trucks.
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors will consider an ordinance Tuesday that requires background checks for drivers and bans anyone convicted of a sex offense, burglary or other crimes in the past five years.
A similar law is being drafted in Riverside County.
There are about 600 ice cream trucker drivers in the two counties.
Last year, residents of a Perris neighborhood waged an awareness campaign after discovering that a registered sex offender was driving an ice cream truck there. He has since left the area.
