Corona Police Department’s Public Safety Day to thrill local residents with live demonstrations

Corona’s K-9 unit will apprehend suspects, special tactic units will rescue a hostage and arrest criminals and S.W.A.T. equipment will be on display for family fun

The Corona Police Department will host its annual Public Safety Day on Saturday, May 17, to pay tribute to law enforcement officers and promote public safety. The no-cost event will be held at The Promenade Shops at Dos Lagos, located at 2780 Cabot Dr. , from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is a collaborative effort between the police department, Poag & McEwen and Team Corona, the city’s economic development division.

Live educational demonstrations by Corona ’s K-9 unit, Special Response Team and Defensive Tactics Team will be offered throughout the day. The demonstrations will include a K-9 suspect apprehension, a hostage-rescue demonstration performed by the Special Response Team and self-defense and arrest exhibits preformed by the Defensive Tactics Team.

Tactical equipment including a police helicopter, an armored truck and a S.W.A.T. mobile-command center will be on display. A horse-mounted unit will also be in attendance.

The event is family-oriented and will feature Radio Disney, an obstacle course and guest appearances by McGruff, the Crime Dog, and Red E. Fox, 9-1-1’s educational mascot for children.

Dedicated to providing the highest quality of service for a better, safer community, the Corona Police Department hosts Public Safety Day to give residents the opportunity to interact with city officers and learn valuable safety information.

Corona ’s Public Safety Day coincides with National Law Enforcement Week, which runs from May 11 to May 17. Declared by John F. Kennedy in 1962, this week was designated to pay tribute to all the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community and country.

Corona ’s leadership invests heavily to train police, fire and medical response teams, which has helped rank Corona as one of nation’s top 100 safest communities by the F.B.I. As one of Corona ’s top civic priorities, Public Safety Day will bring public safety to the forefront of public consciousness and allow residents to meet officers, tour the equipment and enjoy the day.
