DEFROCKED CA JUDGE SEEKS ELECTION BACK INTO SAME BENCH

You have to admire the guy for his persistence.

Defrocked Riverside, California judge Robert G. Spitzer, removed from his Riverside County judicial bench last October by a state commission that cited him for willful misconduct and dishonesty, filed a declaration with the county registrar Tuesday to run for that same office.

Personally, we have not seen an act of such self delusional futility since suspended Las Vegas Judge Elizabeth Halverson filed for reelection earlier this year in the face of multiple formal charges of misconduct by Nevada’s judicial watchdog commission.

To those of you who wonder aloud “can he do that?”, the (former) judge thinks so.

While Spitzer's removal from the bench by the California Commission on Judicial Performance prevents him from acting as a judge and automatically suspends him from practicing law in California, his case is not final, and will not be so until the California Supreme Court makes it official by denying Spitzer's appeal.

And it gets better: If there is no Supreme Court decision by the March deadlines for candidates to withdraw statements, Spitzer might be able to list himself as a superior court judge on the June ballot!

While “Judge” Spitzer’s determination to return to the bench seems to match that of his Las Vegas counterpart Judge Halverson, at least the 500 pound Sin City judge can be counted on for continuous comedic relief. Which makes her way better than Spitzer in our view.

Stay tuned!
