Homes for Our Troops (www.homesforourtroops.org), a national non-profit organization dedicated to building specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans, will hold a two-day Build Brigade in Corona, CA on August 24-25, to begin construction of a home for Army Sergeant David Mayer.

The Build Brigade begins with a ceremony Friday, August 24 at 8:30 a.m. Following the opening event, the veteran and family members, HFOT representatives, and selected invited guests will work together to raise the home’s first wall. The goal of the two-day build is to frame, side, and roof the house and install windows and doors. Interior and finishing work will be completed in the following months. The home will provide Mayer with maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.

Mayer was on his second deployment when he lost both of his legs when the convoy he was riding in was attacked in Al-Hillah, Iraq on March 14, 2008. He looks forward to recovering in a home built to accommodate his needs, providing him with more freedom and independence.

“This home will stabilize me so that I can go to school and work and get on with my life. One of my biggest worries has been trying to locate accessible housing and Homes for Our Troops is taking that worry away,” said Mayer.
