Corona, CA: Woman's body dumped in field triggers homicide probe

Homicide detectives are investigating the apparent slaying of a woman in her 50s whose body was found in a field Monday in a newly incorporated area of Corona just west of Interstate 15, city police say.

"We had a passerby that had seen the body on the side of the road," Sgt. Kim Velasco said about 9 a.m. today. "It was in some bushes."

The discovery was reported at 10:38 a.m. Monday along Foothill Parkway, about 100 feet east of Starne Road. The victim was wearing pants and a shirt. There were no obvious signs of trauma, though the body appeared to have been dumped there, Velasco said.

No arrests have been made.

Investigators have determined the victim's identity but have not released her name.

Detectives plan to reveal more information about noon, Velasco said. Riverside County coroner's officials have released no information about the victim or the incident.
