Corona, CA: Esquivias vs. Ruiz on August 19th


Summer time means hot action under the stars as Efrain Esquivias leads a number of local stars and one from Allentown, Pennsylvania on a fight card at the Omega Products International in Corona. The Thompson Boxing Promotions “New Blood” outdoor event that takes place on Friday, August 19 and promises another night of all out action!

Esquivias (13-0, 9 KOs) has quickly rocketed up the ranks of the junior featherweight division with a style that blends speed, defense and pinpoint counter-punching accuracy in each and every one of his fights. This time he faces veteran prizefighter Juan Ruiz (23-6, 7 KOs) of Santa Clarita, California in a scheduled 10-round fight for the NABF title. Esquivias is trained by world famous boxing trainer Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Boxing gym in Hollywood.

Popular Artemio “King” Reyes (12-1, 10 KOs) of San Bernardino is the semi-main event as he squares off with Mexican veteran Cristian Favela (31-31-1, 15 KOs) in a scheduled eight round welterweight contest.

Reyes has exploded on to the boxing scene with his two-fisted firepower that has resulted in a 90 percent knockout ratio. Few opponents have been able to contend with his blistering attacks especially to the body. Favela, is known for his ability to withstand anyone’s punching power. The Mexican fighter has faced some of the very best boxers in the world and is especially deadly against over zealous youngsters.

Ontario’s Richard Contreras (5-0, 4 KOs) has surprised many in his short time in the pro ranks. He’ll be matched against Isaac Hidalgo (8-7-2, 1 KO) in a six-rounder. Contreras has demonstrated great skills and promise for a pugilist with only five professional bouts.

Returning from across the country is big-punching bantamweight Miguel Diaz (5-0, 3 KOs). The Allentown bomber has proven to be a crowd-pleasing fighter who has been able to compete with the competitive bantamweights on the West Coast. He faces Mexico’s Samuel Gutierrez (5-8-1) in a four-round bout.

Riverside’s Daniel Franco (2-0) leads a number of other local pugilists who are scrambling to shoot to the top of the boxing scene. Franco fights Mauro Brenes who is making his pro debut. Robert Crespo (1-0) fights Javier Albonica (1-0) and Angel Aponte makes his pro debut against Cain Garcia who is looking for his first pro win.
