Upcoming construction prompts closure of freeway HOV lane

The high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane on State Route 91 between Tyler Street and Magnolia Avenue will be closed continuously for construction from 9 p.m., Friday, through 5 a.m., Monday.

In addition, traffic on that stretch of highway will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights as No. 1 and 2 lanes will be closed for construction.

The closures will allow the construction of bridge columns in the median of the freeway. The project will replace the La Sierra Avenue bridges over both the freeway and railroad. The new six-lane bridges will reduce traffic congestion on La Sierra Avenue and the dual left-turn lanes will make it easier for vehicles that traverse the bridge to access the 91 Freeway.

The project is expected to be completed by summer of 2009.
