Corona, CA: Anaheim Man, 23, Arrested For Intentionally Running Over Corona Grandfather

A murder suspect was behind bars Monday after allegedly running over and killing a local grandfather on purpose.

Riverside County deputies say 68-year-old Herman Villalobos was riding his bike Sunday along Windsong Street in Corona, just a few blocks from his home, when a male driver intentionally plowed his car into the man.

The driver took off, leaving Villalobos in the street to be discovered by his neighbors.

“I came out and the man was laying here in the street,” said a tearful Desiree Connelly. “His bike was across the street. I feel so sorry for that family”

Anthony Ray Lopez, 23, of Anaheim was arrested Monday in connection with Villalobos’ death.

The victim’s son Joseph Villalobos says Lopez is a stranger.

“My dad, he was a very loving man,” said Joseph. “I think it’s absolutely disgusting that my dad was run down, recklessly, for no reason.”

Joseph says his family also lost his mother and his sister within the past year.

“Whoever did this, I hope they can feel the pain that we feel,” said Joseph. “This person made me and my sister orphans.”

Investigators say witnesses helped track down the Lopez. He was being held in lieu if $1 million bail.

The motive for the killing is unknown.
