Corona, CA: An Unusual Twist to Usual Themes: Shadows and Fire Published by Outskirts Press

Debut novelist Jennifer Fales blends the supernatural with science fiction to create a new twist on traditional themes in this epic adventure in a parallel future where man has created his own worst nightmare and where nothing is what it seems.

Author Jennifer Fales announced today the release of her debut novella Shadows and Fire, published by Outskirts Press. In a future world that contains both the familiar and the alien, a brother and sister try desperately to reunite while a hybrid race of supernatural beings demands a high toll in return for keeping the peace.

Conflict, tension and inequity drive the action in this future time and place where man has created a human/animal hybrid species in a parallel world that threatens his own undoing. One tortured man seeking redemption and one brother and sister have become the unwilling products of both worlds, and now, torn apart, they are determined to reunite with one another.

In this dark, sometimes funny future world, readers are introduced to a series of memorable characters including a rakish wolf, a warrior priest and a swan who’s really a mad scientist inside. The main characters’ struggles and adventures play out dramatically for the reader against author Fales’ backdrop of witty banter, a local bar, an explosion, a few guns and swords and a little classic rock from the 60’s.

“Writing, at its best,” says Fales, “is a wonderful form of escape. You sit at your keyboard or pick up a pen and create something more than words. The sights, sounds and smells – the laughter and the heartbeats of the characters are real; it all stays with you. And your goal is to pass that on to someone else: that glorious sense of escape.”

Fales’ engaging characters, continuous action and strong story line provide exactly that pleasure of escape.

Shadows and Fire is available on-line in paperback through Amazon and Barnes and Noble and at for a maximum trade discount in quantities of ten or more.
